N'Gor Island - Senegal

PRESENTATION

Welcome to NGor Island Surf Camp

A paradise on a tiny Island surrounded by a few world class waves, close to the capital center of Dakar. The camp offers you to stay in a nice and clean place with a pool, outside showers and sunbeds - a perfect place to chill after a long day of surfing. We are waiting for you to come and enjoy our endless summer type of life.

The Island

The surfcamp is located on the tiny island of NGor, Africa’s westernmost point just off the coast of Dakar - Senegal. Eight hundred meters long and another Eight hundred from the mainland, this spot has become a trendy place and a surfer hideaway. Home to Senegal's most famous wave, the NGor right , featured in "The Endless Summer".

The island is a very peaceful and relaxed. The boat bringing you across the water is a 'pirogue' (traditional fishing boat). As soon as you step off the boat, you will feel the exotic atmosphere. Walking around the Island you can find small galleries offering art and music.

On the bay side you will find quiet white sandy beaches where you can swim, relax or eat lunch. At the local beachside restaurants they serve different fish, gambas, lobster all caught by the local NGor fisherman. There are also two small grocery shops selling drinks, snacks and anything else you may need.

On the side facing the Atlantic Ocean, the coast is pounded by almost constant swell. The solid rock foundation is creating optimal conditions for surfing. A left and a right running at each their tide, picking up even the smallest Atlantic swell in the summer.

The night life on the island is very calm and quiet. At the camp we organize some barbecues with music and there is always a place to have a drink on the beach. You can also take a boat to the mainland (Dakar) which is only 5 minutes away where you will find exciting discos and bars in best Senegal style. We promise that you will find what you are looking for...

The Surf House

The camp offers a hangout area with heated pool, outside showers and sunbeds - a perfect place to chill after a long day of surfing. As we are located on one of the highest properties on the island, there is sea view from everywhere in the house. Roof terrace with an amazing 360 degree view on all the waves around Ngor. From here you can also see the stunning sunset over the Atlantic ocean at the most western point of Africa.

We are just 50 meters from the most consistent wave in West Africa overlooking the spot from the house. “Ngor right” is also known as the first wave they surfed in "The Endless Summer" movie. Only one minute walk to the calm sand beach in the bay of Ngor.

The single and double rooms has comfortable beds, mosquito nets and private bathrooms with hot water from the solar system, heated by the African sun. The two dormitory options are provided in the main house, the other on the roof terrace with the amazing view on the ocean.

Sea view from the table where breakfast and dinner are served. All the camp employees will always do their best to make your
stay as pleasant as possible. Your bedroom is cleaned by a maid every day and we have a laundry service available.

The island does not have main electricity but we do have a solar system with full lighting, fans, plug sockets in each room for charging mobile phones etc., wireless internet, solar heated water and showers providing all comfort needed.  We collect plastic for recycling and we have our own compost at the camp.

Spotmap & Guiding

Every day one of our local surf guides will take you to the best of 21 spots. Located on the most Western point of Africa the nearby mainland peninsular attracts swell from the North, West and South offering potentially Africa's largest and most consistent swell window.

The waves here are consistent all year round--almost twice as consistent as in France and Morocco in summer. And, despite nearly half a century of surfing in Senegal, there has never been a shark attack on a surfer.

We always do our best to make sure that our guests are at the best place at the right time. Checking up on local swell forecasts and most important watching the spots at first light. If the conditions are good the camp bell will be ringing, then off for a sunrise session before breakfast. There is always a cup of coffee and some fruit to grape before going out the door. Our boatman "Bai Dam" lives in the camp and will take us to the mainland or to the spot by boat with a guide.

Guiding

At 10 O'clock when we have finished the breakfast, we get a fresh updated swell report from the different spots. Sending our guests to the different spots depending on level with a guide. Then surf's up all day:) Samba the mini van driver is waiting on the mainland, if that's where we find the best spots of the day. Bai Dam is on stand by all day ready to take us to the spots around NGor Island.

Our surf guiding is all about trying to help our guests exploring the best waves that only local knowledge can provide. As we have huge swell window and changing wind directions, conditions are all the time changing. Our guides are there to help our guests reading entrance and exit points at various spots, tides, waves and wind options. To make sure that you will have the most suitable conditions regarding your level.
