Situated in the open South Pacific, the archipelago is fully exposed to swells coming from all directions. But it is undoubtedly the Southern swells time, during the South hemisphere winter, that constitutes the most favourable period of the year. From April to October, the depressions generated in the South Pacific constantly wash this archipelago with regular swells.
Taapuna, the most known spot of the island of Tahiti is also the most crowded reef wave because it unrolls in the immediate vicinity of Papeete.Turquoise Surf Travel has selected for you the virgin waves of the Taiarapu peninsula, some sixty kilometers from the capital. You can choose among several types of lodging on this land strip that is still wild.
Most of the waves are found a cable's length from Havae pass and its famous left, mostly known by the name of Teahupo (pronounced "Chopo"). It is so powerful that it should only be tackled by experienced surfers.
The neighbouring Te Ava Ino and Te Ava Iti passes as well as the Vairao big pass (or channel) are more reasonable waves for medium-level surfers.
The tour of the archipelago will continue with a trip of the neighbouring island of Mooera, with its beautiful lagoon and beaches and, of course, the famous Haapiti left. Depending on its size it will be suitable for medium-level or seasoned surfers. You will be staying at Ronui's, in front of the spot, or 5 km farther North at Hôtel Hibiscus, not far from the Park Royal pass, an interesting wave when the swell comes from the North.
Now, it only remains for you to get on board and sail to the South Seas. We will be there, waiting for you with our arms full of flower garlands.
